Barcelona fans were happy with Junior Firpo’s display vs Celta Vigo

Barcelona cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday night at the Camp Nou.

And while Lionel Messi was once again the star of the show, bagging a rather impressive hat-trick in the process, Ernesto Valverde can be happy with some other performances from his squad players as well.

One such ace was Junior Firpo, a newcomer to the team that was finally given a chance in the side.

With that game against Celta Vigo, the young full-back now has a total of just 324 minutes under his belt.

But needless to say, he embraced this opportunity with both hands and fully repaid Valverde’s trust.

Many Barcelona fans swarmed Twitter with their messages of support for the young defender and simply showered him with praise.

One fan even compared Firpo to Eric Abidal, a Blaugrana icon from back in the day, and there were even shouts of him starting ahead of Jordi Alba.

Man City fans react to reports linking the club Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu

Manchester City fans have reacted to reports from Turkish newspaper Fanatik (via Sport Witness), which state the club could be set to go in for Caglar Soyuncu in January.Soyuncu has been one of the Premier League’s best central defenders this season and has helped Leicester City into second after 12 games. The Turkey international has played in each of these fixtures and also scored a goal and assisted for the Foxes in that time. The 23-year-old has certainly been one of the main strengths in Leicester establishing the best defensive record in the league, as the club have conceded just eight goals -Âtwo less than leaders Liverpool.City, on the other hand, have struggled in this regard and fell into fourth as a result of their defensive woes. However, despite the clear need for reinforcements in the absence of Aymeric Laporte, not all the supporters are sold on the idea of bringing in Soyuncu.

Some fans believe the reported £42.7m is not going to cut it with Leicester, as they sold Harry Maguire for £80m.

Certain supporters would be happy with securing his signature, but other fans have pointed to the idea of bringing in Ruben Dias from Benfica instead.

Here’s how some City fans have reacted to the report…

Adama Traore hailed by Wolves fans after win at Bournemouth

Following Saturday’s 2-1 win at Bournemouth in the Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo lavished praise on Adama Traore.

And now the Wolves fans have hailed the former Barcelona youngster for his display in the impressive victory against Eddie Howe’s side.

The Europa League team made it three straight victories on Saturday as first-half goals from Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez proved enough to secure all three points.

Traore played the full 90 minutes for the visitors, and in addition to providing the assist for Jimenez’s goal, the attacker won two tackles and boasted a pass success rate of 77% at the Vitality Stadium, according to WhoScored.

And many of the Wolves fans were keen to praise the 23-year-old, who has also contributed two Premier League goals during the 2019/20 campaign, in addition to three assists in the Europa League.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the club’s supporters can be seen below:

Liverpool fans react to link with Ousmane Dembele

Liverpool’s forward trident of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah is one of the best in world football but there is a distinct lack of depth beyond those revered talents.

Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri are both capable of slotting into some of the forward positions, though neither player has managed to convince on a consistent basis.

The fundamental issue is that Mane, Firmino and Salah are verging on irreplaceable, but the club cannot let that feeling dictate their transfer strategy.

Who said it: Klopp or Thanos?

Jurgen Klopp’s squad is crying out for the addition of a versatile attacking player who can seamlessly slot into at least two roles in the forward line, and a recent report from Spain suggests the Reds have identified a player who could fit that profile.

Indeed, according to Sport, Klopp is a huge admirer of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, with the Frenchman’s form during his one-year spell with Borussia Dortmund particularly catching the eye.

The same report claims the club are considering a proposal worth €90m (£80m) to submit to the Catalan giants.

And the supporters were relatively divided after hearing the news.

Some fans believe that the player is too injury prone to justify a fee of £80m, while others are eager to see the mooted deal go through.

Spurs fans react to interest in Bournemouth’s David Brooks

Having only managed to bring in Steven Bergwijn as a new permanent signing in the January transfer window, Jose Mourinho will no doubt be keen to strengthen his Tottenham squad this summer.

And according to the latest reports, one man who the north London side could well be targeting, is Bournemouth’s David Brooks.

The Sun claim that the Cherries are bracing for a shake-up in the summer window, and that both Manchester United and Spurs “could rekindle their interest” if the 22-year-old can regain his fitness again – he has missed 251 days of action thanks to an ankle injury suffered back in July of last year.

After hearing about the links to Brooks, Spurs fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their potential summer transfer target.

A couple of fans however did raise concerns about Brooks’ track record with injuries, with one supporter in particular claiming that a move “would be a risk”.

Another Spurs fan meanwhile was far less enthusiastic about the prospect of Brooks signing, instead suggesting QPR’s Eberechi Eze as a better option.

Having missed the entirety of this campaign, Spurs would no doubt be taking somewhat of a gamble in making a move for Brooks in the summer.

But based on his performances last season, he does seem like he would be a shrewd swoop. He netted seven times and provided a further five assists in just 33 games across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s side, and that included some big-time moments too – not least the goal and assist in the 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea.

Most Spurs fans are right to be excited by Brooks’ potential arrival.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans react to Victor Wanyama’s admission.

Spurs fans react to Tanguy Ndombele footage

Tottenham Hotspur’s club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele hasn’t even been in north London for longer than a year yet his future under Jose Mourinho is constantly in doubt, and reports this week have no doubt further fueled the fire.

However, the £55m Frenchman posted a compilation of clips from his time at the club to Instagram along with the caption Rien à signaler” meaning ‘nothing to report.’

The Spurs boss has publically slammed Ndombele on more than one occasion whilst it’s claimed that La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are courting his services despite only joining in the summer.

He’s a player that has divided opinion all season amongst the fanbase and this footage has only compounded that further.

The 23-year-old has averaged just 51 minutes per appearances this season and has featured in 27 matches, contributing to a total of six goals, per Transfermarkt.

His lack of regular game time due to his fitness is predominantly the reason for any negative comments against him, but going by the video, it’s clear to see there is a superb player in him somewhere.

Everton backed to make sensational move for Coutinho

Speaking to Football Insider, Michael Brown has backed Everton to make a sensational move for Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.

What did he say?

The Brazilian has endured a difficult time of things since leaving Liverpool a few years ago, and has spent this season on loan at Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that Barcelona are willing to cut their losses on Coutinho, and that Everton have been told via intermediaries that he could be available for a fee of around £80m this summer.

Now, Brown has thrown his backing behind a potential move, suggesting that he is the type of high-profile player that Carlo Ancelotti would want at Goodison Park.

He said: “What a story that would be, wouldn’t it? I think it’s always, when you’re at big clubs, you go to their rivals, we’ve seen it before and it’s not always welcome from different sets of supporters here and there.

“He’s a great talent and Everton, you would expect Ancelotti to be going for some big players. He’s one of those.”

Ambition

Putting aside Coutinho’s ties to Liverpool, there’s no doubting the Brazilian still remains a top-class player on his day.

Whilst Barcelona were seemingly happy enough to join up with Bayern Munich for this season on a loan deal, he has still produced some fairly impressive numbers in Germany. As per Transfermarkt, in his 32 games for the club, he has scored nine times and provided a further eight assists, and a return to the Premier League could see him hit top form again.

In fact, the very nature of him signing with Everton could give him that added chip on his shoulder of trying to prove Liverpool wrong. It could lead him to greater performances, and splashing out £80m on him would also be a major statement of intent that the Toffees mean business in the transfer market this summer.

Celtic fans want to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi permanently

Now the Scottish Premiership is all done and dusted and Celtic have been confirmed as champions – a history-making ninth title in a row – many fans at Parkhead have been discussing the future of their playing squad.

Neil Lennon’s league-winning side have some players out of contract this summer and an array of loanees ranging from Moritz Bauer to Fraser Forster.

But it is another Saints man that supporters have been calling to sign permanently this week.

One account on Twitter asked fans whether they’d ‘stick or twist’ and an overwhelming majority were in favour of seeing more of the tricky Norweigen winger.

The 25-year-old has been restricted to just 20 appearances in all competitions due to several injury problems but has managed to provide seven goals and six assists, via Transfermarkt, so it can be argued that there is a very good player at this level in there somewhere.

There have been claims in the English press that Southampton may be forced to sell players due to the pandemic severely hindering their finances, and you’d imagine a player that hasn’t been in their plans this term is one who they’d be willing to let go.

Although it remains to be seen what sort of fee he would command – Transfermarkt value him at £8.55m.

Newcastle United: Takeover would not be affected by possible Premier League relegation

Newcastle United fans may breathe a slight sign of relief as the Daily Mail have reported that the prospective takeover in the northeast would not be affected by the possible relegation from the Premier League this season.

Indeed, the Tyneside club are relatively comfortable in 13th place in the table at the moment on 35 points, eight above the dreaded drop zone with nine games left to play. Whilst the Magpies could see themselves as reasonably safe currently, it is still a mathematical possibility that they could eventually be relegated.

However, if the worst case scenario was to happen, then it would perhaps not be all doom and gloom at St. James’ Park, as the proposed deal between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabia-led consortium would reportedly not be affected by this situation.

The Daily Mail understands that the £300m bid does not include any clauses which relate to the possibility of relegation or, equally, European qualification. As per the report, the terms of the buyout were struck in early April and are locked in at £300m, with a non-refundable £17m deposit having already been paid to Ashley.

There is also the possibility of the agreed price taking on added value, were Steve Bruce to lead his team to FA Cup glory and continental competition for the 2020/21 season.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the only two things that can now scupper the takeover are the Premier League blocking it or, if it is approved, the buyers not producing the money. This can be seen as another encouraging sign towards the deal finally being completed.

Rangers must beat Celtic to Ivan Toney signing

According to Football Insider, Rangers face the prospect of a bidding war to land Peterborough striker Ivan Toney this summer.

What’s the word?

With reports in recent weeks indicating that Alfredo Morelos could be heading out of Ibrox come the end of the season, it’s been no surprise to see the Gers being linked with a replacement for the Colombia international.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Now, Football Insider have revealed that with the likes of Rangers, Celtic and West Brom all interested in Toney, Peterborough are keen for a bidding war to break out, and hope that this could lead to a fee in the region of £8m being secured for him.

Perfect Morelos replacement

With Morelos’ future uncertain, Ross Wilson and co could do a lot worse than bringing Toney north of the border this summer.

The 24-year-old was in prolific form for Peterborough, notching an astonishing 26 goals in just 39 games, not to mention his seven assists too – in fact since the turn of the year, he had netted ten goals in ten games in League One.

It’s no surprise that his manager at the club, Darren Ferguson, has waxed lyrical about what Toney brings to the table. He said: “Ivan is still young. He will improve further and I am just delighted we have him here as he is undoubtedly the best all-round player in League One. He scores all sorts of goals. He scores with either foot from all sorts of distances and he scores with his head.

“But he also has a great touch and good feet. He passes the ball well and he’s good at set-pieces at both ends of the pitch. Last season I felt he needed to be riled to become aggressive, but this season he’s just gone out there and played hard from the first game. He’s too much for League One defenders to handle.”

If Rangers are looking are for someone to come in and replace Morelos both in terms of his goals and aggression, then Toney seems like the perfect man for the job.
