According to French outlet Le10Sport, the Magpies are set to battle it out with Ligue 1 giants PSG to land the Ivorian in the summer.
The report claims that PIF are prepared to make a move for the midfielder and will not ‘hesitate’ to open their chequebook to secure his services, although it remains to be seen how much money the French side want for their star man.

He could form a strong partnership with Guimaraes in midfield, with the Brazilian having also caught the eye in Ligue 1. In the first half of the season for Lyon, the 24-year-old averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.21 as he made an outstanding 3.6 tackles and interceptions per game.
This suggests that he will be able to provide the defensive anchor to allow Fofana to express himself going forward for Newcastle. Guimaraes would be the sturdy, reliable, operator to win possession back and then the Ivorian would be able to break and attempt to score and create goals in the final third knowing that he has the Brazilian machine behind him.

Aston Villa secured a much-needed victory last weekend with their 2-0 win against Brighton after losing their two prior league games.
This weekend sees the Midlands club take on Southampton at Villa Park to see if they can pick up another three points and get closer to breaking into the top half of the table.

According to a recent tweet from Ashley Preece, Villa winger Bertrand Traore has rejoined first team training this week after picking up an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
The Burkina Faso international joined the Midlands club in 2020 from French side Lyon in a deal worth a reported £17m.
Since arriving at Villa Park, the 26-year-old has made 45 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with eight goals and providing seven assists in the process, showing what a useful player he can be for the team in an attacking sense when he’s fit enough to play.
His debut season in a Villa shirt went rather well, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 36 league appearances and earning himself an overall performance rating of 6.85/10, making him the seventh-highest rated outfield player at the club according to WhoScored.
However, having only appeared in six Premier League games this season and just two since Gerrard was appointed back in November, the winger will undoubtedly be keen to get back out on the pitch and properly get his season going, in the same way that the 41-year-old will surely be ecstatic to have him back.

If the attacker can maintain his fitness for the remainder of the season, not only will he provide his manager with an extra attacking option if he feels the need to change things up, but also offer a real threat in front of goal, either by scoring himself or creating opportunities for his team-mates. The extra precision he could bring is something Villa have lacked in recent games, so Traore’s impending return could be very timely indeed.

Wolves youngster Connor Ronan needs to seal a permanent move away from Molineux despite his undoubted ability, according to journalist Tim Spiers.
The Lowdown: Ronan shining out on loan
The 24-year-old is currently out on loan at St Mirren, having joined the Scottish Premiership side on a temporary basis last summer.
Ronan has done well during his time there to date, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 21 league starts, catching the eye in the middle of the park.
It is just the latest of many loan moves for the midfielder, however, and it could be that a permanent Wolves exit makes sense this summer.

At 24, this is now a crucial point in Ronan’s career and he needs to be settled at a new club in order to reach his potential.
Jumping between teams on loan can be good experience for a player in his late teens or early 20s but the Irishman is now beyond that point and has to become less nomadic.

It is hard to see how he will ever become a key figure at Wolves – he has only made 13 first-team appearances for the club – so a move away makes sense for all parties.

West Ham are still interested in signing Benfica forward Darwin Nunez this summer according to reports.

Popular journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the Hammers could be back in for the striker in the next transfer window, saying: “Darwin Núñez will be another big name to watch in the summer.
“West Ham made an official bid for him on Deadline Day in Jan: €48m [£40.4m] turned down by Benfica. Hammers alongside other clubs will be back in the summer for Núñez, this time with good chances.”
Potential gem of a signing
West Ham could find themselves in a European competition again next season, which will most likely result in a summer transfer window full of investment from Co-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold.
Currently with just Michail Antonio the only natural striker in the first team squad, that position is one area that is likely to be strengthened at the end of the season – particularly if the club is to endure midweek ventures deep into the continent once again next campaign. Aston Villa are now in talks with Barcelona over a permanent deal for Philippe Coutinho, according to 90Min’s Graeme Bailey.
The lowdown
In January, Coutinho moved from Catalonia to the Midlands on a short-term loan. Under the agreement, Villa reportedly have the option to buy the Brazilian for £33million at the end of the season.
Coutinho has scored four goals and provided three assists in his first ten appearances in claret and blue.
Only two players – Danny Ings (ten) and Ollie Watkins (eight) – have recorded more goal involvements over the entire season for Villa.
The latest
Bailey wrote on Twitter that ‘Aston Villa [are] in talks’ with Barcelona as they bid to sign Coutinho long-term.
In his attached story, he writes that the player’s form has caught the eye of ‘rival Premier League clubs’ but Villa are ‘optimistic’ that they can overcome any hurdles and win the race.
Those hurdles include Coutinho’s near £500,000-per-week salary (including bonuses) – the 29-year-old apparently knows he’ll have to take a pay cut if he’s to secure a move to Villa Park.
Villa are looking to wrap up a deal in advance of the summer so they can move on to other priorities.
The verdict
Gerrard called Coutinho ‘magical’ during their time together at Liverpool, which lasted two and a half years.
His 54 goals for the Reds included one against Villa in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley, though Tim Sherwood’s side did go on to win the game 2-1.

How Igamane compares to Rangers forwards this season
In what is such a pressure cooker in Glasgow, signing off on eye-watering deals for figures like Chermiti is almost a case of setting the player up to fail from the off, with the man who failed to score a single goal at Everton since netting just once in his new surroundings.
It is far more prudent and astute to seek out bargain deals instead, where possible, with the Light Blues reaping the rewards of having forked out just £1.7m for Igamane back in the summer of 2024.
It was a muted start for the promising Moroccan forward, having taken until early December to net his first Premiership goal, albeit with that kickstarting something of a purple patch, with nine of his 11 league goals coming in December and January.
The Gers’ Europa League voyage arguably brought the best out of the 23-year-old too, with Igamane registering four goals and one assist across his first four league phase outings.

With his imposing frame and eye for goal, the youngster is a real box-crashing threat for his current side, typically operating as an all-action central midfielder.
While his overall record stands at just 21 goals and assists in 87 senior games, there’s certainly enough to be encouraged by, with that record not too far below Igamane’s 26 goals and assists in 56 games for AS FAR, albeit while operating as a forward.
In the view of analyst Kai Watson, he appears to be destined for one of Europe’s top five leagues, such is his talent, with Rangers perhaps able to provide a suitable stepping stone, as they were for Igamane last season.
Like Igamane too, there is an elegance and silk to the midfielder’s game which could be nurtured under the Rohl regime, with the Gers again in need of that player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck.
This does then look like a deal worth pursuing, with Bjornebye – and his expertise of the Scandinavian market – perhaps the perfect figure to lead this move for his fellow Norwegian.

Rangers’ look like they’ve plucked another frustrating talent from south of the border.
Manchester United are on the hunt for a few new additions to their squad in January. Ruben Amorim’s side are still not exactly in prolific form, having won just two of their last eight games in the Premier League.
However, a signing in the winter window could lift things. One of the players they are linked with is Antoine Semenyo, and Fabrizio Romano has reported once again that they are ‘pushing’ to sign the Bournemouth winger. His release clause of £65m will expire on January 10th, so United must act quickly.
Semenyo is not the only target United are said to be considering a move for this winter.

It is no secret that the Red Devils also want to sign a midfielder within the next couple of transfer windows. Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton, two of the most talked-about players in the Premier League, are both targets but valued at upwards of £100m.
Instead, the Red Devils are ‘lining up’ a move to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to Caught Offside.
The Frenchman, who is just 18 years of age, has made a real impression in his short career so far, and United ‘may move fast’ to win the race, having scouted him for a long time.
However, they will not be alone in this race. Bouaddi is a player in demand, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all showing interest from within the Premier League.
Across Europe, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keen. As for a fee, Bouaddi could cost upwards of £44m.
Why Bouaddi could be a better signing than Semenyo
“Youth, courage, success” is a key motto of United. Signing 18-year-old Bouaddi certainly fits the bill in that sense. He is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe, described as an “elite level” player by Como scout Ben Mattinson.
His talent is reflected in the fact that he’s played so much for Lille this season. The midfielder, who was born in Senlis, just outside of Paris, has played 20 times across all competitions for the French side, chipping in with one assist.
Bouaddi tends to sit at the base of the midfield for the Ligue 1 outfit, looking to progress play forward with his ball-carrying ability. He’s yet to score a goal at professional level, but does have four career assists, including one this season. It showcases just how good he is with the ball at his feet, with his slick dribbling creating space to slide Felix Correia in.
Indeed, his underlying stats further reinforce this. Bouaddi is averaging 1.4 completed take-ons per 90 minutes so far this season in Ligue 1, and has created one chance each game on average, too.

There is certainly a case to be made that the signing of the French U21 international would be better than that of Semenyo.
That is not to say the Cherries winger would be a bad addition to United’s attack. He has 11 goals and assists in 16 games in the Premier League this term.
He is, of course, one of the best attackers in the league. In the summer, he did individual training with Saul Isaksson-Hurst, who later described him as a “Champions League-level player.” It would be a huge coup for United.
Yet, there is an argument to say a midfielder is a priority for Amorim’s side. It is probably the area in the squad where United have the worst depth.

Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are first-choice in the pivot; Manuel Ugarte is not good enough, and Amorim still won’t give Kobbie Mainoo an opportunity.
Signing Bouaddi would add depth to the midfield, which is desperately needed right now. On top of that, he is a player for the future, as well as the present. At just 18 years of age, United will get the best out of him over the years.
£44m is not the biggest fee for such a highly-rated youngster like Bouaddi. Signing Semenyo would be another good attacking reinforcement, but the French youngster would help solve depth issues and could be the wiser addition.

This attacking ace could add firepower for Man Utd in forward areas.
Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez shone for Colombia in their 3-0 win against Poland in their latest 2018 World Cup fixture on Sunday, and Manchester United fans have urged their club to sign the ace, rated at £63m by Transfermarkt.
The 26-year-old joined the La Liga giants having finished as the top goalscorer at the 2014 World Cup, but he has struggled to make the impact that was perhaps expected of him despite having a record of 36 goals and 40 assists in 111 appearances for them.

Man United supporters, who have also urged their club to sign another 24-year-old World Cup star with one describing him as “better than Perisic”, were quick to have their say on Rodriguez’s performance via social media, and while one said “sign him up and sell lazy Martial”, another said “I’d happily smash the world record fee to sign James Rodriguez”.
