Michael Klinger has revealed he felt compelled to leave South Australia after being told he would be only a fringe part of the Redbacks’ plans for next season, and disputed the suggestion that he left the state for a richer contract with Western Australia.Currently in England as captain of Gloucestershire, 33-year-old Klinger said he was cornered into the decision after being told he was no guarantee of taking his usual place in the SA top order for 2014-15. This directive surprised Klinger, who still retains ambitions of playing for Australia at next year’s World Cup.”I was disappointed and disagreed with the feedback I received. Two Shield games ago I scored a double-ton for South Australia,” Klinger told . “Without sounding arrogant, I feel I am too good a player to not play a full season of Shield cricket. I still have ambitions to play one-day cricket for Australia in the 2015 World Cup but if you are not playing Shield cricket you are out of people’s minds.”When the move was announced, SACA’s high performance manager Jamie Cox had said that Klinger’s decision was influenced by the provision of greater “contract security” with the Warriors. However Klinger said he had not been seeking a contract extension or greater remuneration, and was hurt to be leaving teammates he had grown close to and a city he and his family had made their home over six years.”It was not a contract or money issue,” he said. “The two years over one from WA helped, but I only had a guaranteed opportunity to play first-class cricket in one place. The hardest thing is leaving my team-mates. SA will have success soon and to not be part of that hurts a lot.”It has been a pretty emotional couple of sleepless nights for us. The decision was taking a toll. I was getting a lot of love from Justin Langer, saying I would help their young players and help as a leader for WA.”

Amit Yadav's three rattles Assam late in day

ScorecardA strong batting performance from the middle order helped Goa take a substantial lead before late wickets shook up Assam’s second innings in Guwahati.Goa began the third day on 190 for 2, still trailing Assam by 57 runs. The overnight batsmen, Sagun Kamat and Ravikant Shukla, added a further 56 runs to their third-wicket stand, before Kamat was trapped leg before by Abu Nechim for 60. Shukla only lasted eight overs more before he was scuttled on 30 by the same bowler. The wicketkeeper Keenan Vaz (35), Rohit Asnodkar (54) and Shadab Jakati (38), helped Goa declare on a strong 406, giving them a lead of 159 runs. Assam’s efforts at a strong start were thwarted by opener Kunal Saikia’s run-out in the ninth over. Fellow opener, Sibsankar Roy, also fell on the same score, as four batsmen lost their wicket in the space of just seven runs, leaving the side at a precarious 31 for 4 at the end of the day. Offspinner Amit Yadav was the chief wrecker for Goa, taking 3 for 5, as Assam finished the day 128 runs behind Goa to set up an intriguing final day at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
ScorecardThe run-fest at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium continued on the third day as Hyderabad posted 258 for 1 after Tripura declared at 650 for 8. Akshath Reddy scored his sixth first-class hundred and was unbeaten 138 along with Dwaraka Ravi Teja, who was on 90.Tripura resumed the day on 588 for 6 and lost two wickets from the tail – Rana Dutta and Tushar Saha – before declaring. Abbas Ali remained unbeaten on 132. The Tripura bowlers got only one breakthrough, when Sanjay Majumder took a return catch to dismissed T Suman for 21 with the Hyderabad score at 30. Reddy and Ravi Teja then put on 228 runs, although they still trail Tripura by 392 runs.
ScorecardThe Jammu & Kashmir batsmen made steady progress on the third day against Maharashtra in Pune but still face a tough task as they lead by only 17 runs with four wickets in hand.Continuing from 131 for 1, Obaid Haroon, who was on 54 overnight, scored 40 more and his partner Bandeep Singh marched from 42 to 79. Their partnership of 156 was broken when legspinner Bharatkumar Solanki had Haroon caught behind for 94 and also accounted for Bandeep’s wicket. J&K had added only 41 more and lost two more wickets in quick succession – Manzoor Dar for 15 and Hardeep Singh for 6 – to slip from 203 for 1 to 289 for 5. No. 4 Ian Dev Singh, who scored 98 in the last game, had resisted all with 46, which featured seven fours and a six, but he also fell soon to become Samad Fallah’s second wicket.Samiullah Beigh and Ram Dayal played patiently to score 33 runs until stumps as Beigh was unbeaten on 10 off 114 and Dayal on 27 off 67. Fallah, Solanki and Shrikant Mundhe picked two wickets each.
ScorecardRishi Dhawan lasted just four balls in the morning and with his dismissal, any hopes Himachal Pradesh had for getting a positive result came to an end. Kerala’s spin twins, Vinoop Manoharan and Padmanabhan Prasanth, wrapped up the tail to help Kerala secure an important victory and stay in contention to qualify for the knockouts. Bangladesh pace bowler Mashrafe Mortaza is targeting the home ODI series against New Zealand in October for his international comeback. His fitness has been boosted by a three-week fitness programme that ended at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.Mortaza, who has been recovering from a left-heel injury, said that he has lost weight and has started to bowl more overs progressively. He suffered the injury during the Bangladesh Premier League final in February, and has taken unusually long to cure because of the myriad injuries on his left leg. He had undergone a rehabilitation programme while the Bangladesh team was touring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and continued to work on his fitness thereafter to participate in the fitness camp which began last month.Nazmul Hossain set for comeback

Nazmul Hossain, currently recovering from a surgery on his left knee, is targeting the start of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on August 29 to return to cricket, well in time for the New Zealand series in October. It has been more than a month since he underwent the operation in Australia after he got hurt in Sri Lanka in March this year.
“I hope to start bowling from next week,” Nazmul said. “I have already begun running after completing a month after the surgery. Dr David Young, who operated on me, said that I can return to full fitness after a month.”
Fast bowler Abul Hasan, however, is set for a long lay-off as he prepares for surgery on a slipped disc. He had recurring back pain since the Test series in Sri Lanka in March. It has degenerated into a prolapsed lumbar intervertebral disc, according to physio Vibhav Singh.
BCB’s sports phyisician Dr Debashish Chowdhury said that the sooner the surgery takes place the better, because he could be out for more than a year. “Even if the operation takes place today, he will probably miss out on the World Twenty20. We are trying to find out where he can be sent as soon as possible,” he said.

Mortaza now believes that not only has he completely recovered from the injury, his confidence has also been on the rise.”I have lost four kilos from the start of the camp, and I still need to reduce [another] four to five kilos,” he said. “I need to weigh around 84-85 to feel completely fit. Vibhav Singh [Bangladesh physio] told me that I still need four to five weeks to be completely fit.”This time, however, Mortaza hasn’t required a surgery, which would have been his 11th since his Test debut in 2001. His last international match was an ODI in December last year against West Indies. “I bowled four-five overs yesterday with a short run up, and I bowled almost six overs today with the same run-up, and I didn’t feel any pain,” he said.”But I am not able to bowl at my full strength as I feel that the pain may return if I rush myself. There is enough time for me to make myself fitter as the New Zealand series is in October, and I am confident of getting there on time.”The fitness programme has been useful for many players who were injured after the BPL this year, and have been trying for a comeback since then. According to one of the coaches, the programme was their first since their preparations for the 2011 World Cup. They will return next week with more focus on skills, but Mortaza will continue to build confidence through more fitness work.Closing in on his 30th birthday, and having suffered several injuries, Mortaza has little margin for more injuries. He has already been restricted to limited-overs cricket, and a return to Tests or first-class cricket is still quite a distance away. The ODIs against New Zealand are scheduled after the Test series, which will give Mortaza more time to recover. The last time New Zealand toured Bangladesh, he tumbled over after bowling just one over in the first ODI, injuring his ankle. This time, he knows that his international career would be jeopardised if there’s another injury.”I am very careful about recovering from my injury this time. I can’t afford any more injuries at this point of my career,” he said.

Sheffield Shield: Henry Hunt, the hero in lone-hand for South Australia

Opener made 134 out of 220 as Head missed out; Siddle bagged four wickets before Wakim scored 68 in reply for Tasmania

Alex Malcolm11-Nov-2021Henry Hunt played an extraordinary lone-hand for South Australia, scoring his second consecutive Sheffield Shield century to defy Tasmania on the second day of the rain-affected clash at Bellerive Oval.Hunt made 134 out of South Australia’s 220, with Liam Scott (42) the only other team-mate to reach 15, as Peter Siddle ripped through the visitors, taking 4 for 42.Charlie Wakim made a fine 68 in reply, and Tim Ward faced 102 balls for 29 in the late afternoon to put Tasmania in a solid position only for Nathan McAndrew to remove both men in the fading light to leave the game well poised.Earlier, Hunt stood firm after South Australia collapsed to 5 for 78 in overcast conditions, with Test hopeful Travis Head falling cheaply for 14, chopping Lawrence Neil-Smith onto his stumps, attempting a lead-footed drive on the up. Since dominating the early season matches at Karen Rolton Oval, Head has had diminishing returns of 53, 23, 21, 9 and 14 on spicier surfaces at Adelaide Oval, the WACA and Bellerive Oval.Alex Carey also fell cheaply, slicing Siddle to point. Hunt was rock solid by comparison in his 236-ball epic. He struck 15 fours and three sixes to remain resolute while wickets tumbled at the other end. Scott provided excellent support in a brisk 65-run stand. Hunt was the last man out after adding 28 for the 10th wicket with David Grant facing just one ball. Jarrod Freeman picked up three wickets at the end of the innings.Daniel Worrall struck early in Tasmania’s first innings, squaring up Caleb Jewell with a peach to have him caught at third slip. Worrall operated with five slips at one stage, but Wakim and Ward negotiated the seaming conditions well as the sun came out in the afternoon. The pair shared a 96-run partnership, with Wakim striking eight boundaries in his fluent 68. But Wakim lost his off bail to a cracking off-cutter from Nathan McAndrew. Ward struck just one boundary in 102 deliveries he faced, playing very cautiously. But he fell driving at a ball that held up in the last over of the day, slicing McAndrew to point. Ben McDermott and Tasmania’s perennial night-watchman Neil-Smith survived to stumps.

Eagles, Rhinos clinch easy wins

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsA 102-run partnership between opener Stuart Matsikenyeri and No. 4 Sikandar Raza sealed Mashonaland Eagles’ eight-wicket win over Mountaineers in Harare. This was after their collective bowling effort helped restrict Mountaineers to 179 for 9, an innings which featured a half-century from lower-order batsman Shingi Masakadza, and a near half-century (49) by his brother Hamilton. But besides the two knocks, Mountaineers couldn’t offer much resistance to the bowling.Their innings was full of small partnerships, but none progressed beyond 42 runs. The most productive stand, between Shingi Masakadza and Donald Tiripano was for the eighth wicket, after they were in trouble at 104 for 7. Towards the end of the innings, the last-wicket pair added 33 in 3.3 overs to boost their total. But that didn’t prove to be a difficult one to chase, as Matsikenyeri, scoring 77, featured in productive partnerships with three other top-order batsmen to clinch victory in the 43rd over.
Scorecard At the Kwekwe Sports Club, another one-sided contest took place. Centuries by opener Vusi Sibanda and Brendan Taylor, and an effective spell of 5 for 35 from seamer Mluleki Nkala ensured a comprehensive 189-run win for Mid West Rhinos over Southern Rocks. After being put in to bat, Sibanda and Taylor scored 204 runs together to lead their side to a strong 302 for 6, after which seamer Richard Muzhange, by taking early wickets, laid the base for fellow seamers Ed Rainsford and Nkala to ensure a clinical win.Sibanda’s knock of 106 contained nine boundaries and a six, but the more aggressive innings was played by captain Taylor, who scored 134 off 106 deliveries with the help of 15 boundaries. When their mammoth stand was broken in the 43rd over, their team was a strong 247 for 2. Towards the end there was slight stutter, but they managed to reach 300. In reply, only middle-order batsman Prince Masvaure resisted, with his knock of 40, as the seamers ran through the line-up.

RCB players in the lurch over payments

Several leading India and overseas players contracted to Royal Challengers Bangalore, including team captain Daniel Vettori, are awaiting the first instalment of their fees for the 2012 season

Several leading India and overseas players contracted to Royal Challengers Bangalore, including team captain Daniel Vettori, are awaiting the first instalment of their fees for the 2012 season. Australia allrounder Andrew McDonald is believed to be another player who has not been paid, along with some members of the support staff. The South Africa Cricketers’ Association confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that five South Africans had outstanding payments due to them from the Royal Challengers. The South African cricketers on the Royal Challengers roster include A B DeVilliers, Charl Langeveldt and Rilee Rossouw.Though this is the first season that Royal Challengers have delayed on payments on this scale, the players affected are concerned by the lack of response from franchise officials to their queries. The news comes at a time when the Bangladesh Premier League is in the headlines for non-payment of salaries to its overseas players.Franchise officials, including team director Siddhartha Mallya, did not respond to repeated requests over several days by ESPNcricinfo for comments on the issue. The development coincides with the well-documented financial difficulties being faced by the UB group, the franchise owners. Royal Challengers Bangalore are owned by businessman Vijay Mallya through UB Sports Pvt Ltd, a group subsidiary. In recent months, Mallya’s airline, Kingfisher Airlines, has been found to be in debt of $1.3b. Recent rumours of the sale of the team’s stake have been denied by the UB Group, with a spokesman saying: “There is no question of a stake sale in the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.”The players affected include those from India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. It is believed that Chris Gayle, though, has been paid his contracted amount. “Gayle is looked after separately,” a Royal Challengers player said.Under every identical tri-partite IPL contract, signed between the player, the franchise and the IPL, clause 1.a.i (which covers the schedule of payments) spells out the payment break-up: the player receives 15% of his fee for the season by April 1 (before the IPL or early into it), 50% by May 1 (during the IPL or towards its end), 20% after the Champions League T20 and the remaining 15% by December 1. As of today, Royal Challengers has not met this schedule, with several players still owed 65% of the fee owed to them, nor has it provided any explanation for the delay. It is understood the players emailed the management after the season finished in May, but did not receive a straightforward response.Heath Mills, the chief of the New Zealand Players Cricket Association (NZPCA), said he’d heard about the delay from Vettori on Monday. “It’s disappointing that some of the players have not been paid to date. We hope they are paid before this issue becomes more serious. It really isn’t right that people are not paid for work they have already completed, and I can’t imagine anyone in any workplace environment being overly happy about that.””Nobody has come back to us, to let us know what is going on,” a player said, under the condition of anonymity. “The people, at the moment, are in the dark. Normally there are one or two cases of delayed payments that we have seen in the previous seasons.”Some players are known to have written even to the Royal Challengers’ head coach Ray Jennings, who was unavailable for comment. The players just want to know what the problem is; a clear response will leave them much more comfortable. “There must be a problem. But I need to have awareness of the problem,” another player said. “We are adult enough to understand if there is a problem, that is fine, but we have to see how we resolve the issue from here.”
