Liverpool Keeping Tabs On "Class" £1m Kelleher Replacement

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Hannover 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler ahead of a potential move to the Premier League, according to reports.

Who is Ron-Robert Zieler?

Zieler first arrived at the Heinz von Heiden-Arena from Stuttgart back in 2019 but most of the early years of his career were spent in England, having carried out spells at Manchester United, Northampton and Leicester City, as per Transfermarkt, so he’s no stranger to the style of football in the UK.

The German will be out of contract at the end of next season meaning that the upcoming window will present Stefan Leitl with his final opportunity to cash in should he not want to risk losing him for free in 12 months time, and Jurgen Klopp has already registered his interest.

Football Insider reported in May that the Reds have contacted the 34-year-old’s representatives to discover what it would take to complete a deal, with journalist David Lynch claiming that his homegrown status is “part of the appeal”, and they must have liked the information that they gathered on him because it seems they are considering a swoop in the coming weeks.

Are Liverpool signing Zieler?

According to German outlet BILD (via TEAMtalk), Liverpool are "chasing" Zieler, with the goalkeeper "high" on FSG's summer wishlist. Sporting director Jorg Schmadtke was the person who signed him at Hannover and it's stated that the chief has "told" the Merseyside outfit that he can "secure the deal" to bring him to Anfield. The Reds haven't yet "officially bid", but a seven-figure offer being tabled could be "too good to ignore", with £1m the price tag being mentioned by the outlet.

Hannover 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Should FSG pay the £1m for Zieler?

Liverpool will be aware that Kelleher could be set to leave over the summer in a bid to find regular game time elsewhere so a replacement will be needed should he depart, and considering the calibre of goalkeeper Zieler is, £1m would be an absolute bargain.

The Sports360 client, who’s previously been lauded a “class” shot-stopper by Germany’s former international manager Joachim Low, kept eight clean sheets in 34 Bundesliga appearances last season and was recognised for his individual efforts by picking up three man-of-the-match awards.

The 2014 World Cup winner, who stands at 6 foot 2, could also bring excellent leadership qualities to the squad because he is the captain of his side so would be commanding and be able to organise his team from between the sticks, so whilst he’d only be a back-up rather than a number one, it would absolutely be worth splashing the cash to get him in the building.

Liverpool Hold Talks With “Very Electric” 21 y/o Talent

Liverpool, in the last week, have held talks with the camp of Gabri Veiga over the possibility of a move to Anfield this summer.

Who is Gabri Veiga?

It was an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign for the Reds who failed to get their hands on any form of silverware and were forced to settle for a fifth-placed finish.

And in the weeks since the campaign drew to a close, there has already been multiple changes made at Anfield.

Indeed, the likes of Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Nabby Keita have all left the club following the conclusion of their contracts.

However, they have already made a major move in this summer's transfer window through the addition of Alexis Mac Allister.

But it does not seem as if Klopp will be settling for just one midfield addition this summer with the Reds linked to a host of names already in the early stages of this window.

One of them being the 21-year-old midfield talent, Veiga, who is currently playing his football in La Lisa with Celta Vigo.

The Spaniard enters the summer window off the back of an impressive campaign with the La Liga side where he was able to wrack up 11 goals and four assists in the league alone (via Transfermarkt).

And speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Merseyside's have already held talks over a potential move:

"So these remain two names [Khephren Thuram & Manu Kone] into the list, but I would keep it open because sometimes you can find some opportunities some new name, for example, during last and this week, Liverpool had some conversations with people close to Gabri Veiga.

"He's more kind of quality player, but he's very electric player. I really like him honestly, I think he's one of the best talents in the world."

How much is Gabri Veiga worth?

It appears it is not just Liverpool who could be in the market to sign the talented youngster this summer with a number of other clubs also credited with an interest.

Indeed, it has been suggested Newcastle United are one of the clubs who could make a move for the Spaniard over the coming weeks.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Any club who is looking to land the 21-year-old this summer will have to pay in the region of £34m as the midfielder's contract holds a €40m release clause.

After all, this is a player who has been described as a "wonderful talent" by some in the media and it is clear to see why when he is returning double figure goal returns from midfield.

Over the last year, Veiga has ranked inside the top 12th percentile for successful take-ones and progressive carries (via FBref).

Across all competitions in 2022/23, Liverpool's highest scoring midfielder was Harvey Elliott with a mere five goals across all competitions; something Veiga could potentially provide a lot more of.

Burnley Can Upgrade On Tella With ‘Unique’ £8m-Rated Star

Burnley continue to be linked with a striker ahead of their first season back in the Premier League, with some faces more familiar than others.

El Bilal Toure is a name that is exciting Burnley fans after starring for Almeria last season, while Coventry City's Viktor Gyokeres – who has lit up the Championship – needs no introducing.

There is potentially another option on Vincent Kompany's radar, as the Daily Mail reports that Metz striker Georges Mikautadze is being considered.

Who is Georges Mikautadze?

Mikautadze may not be a "name" as such, but he is one of the rising stars of European football after scoring 23 goals in Ligue 2 last season to finish as top scorer.

The 22-year-old joins Olivier Giroud in finishing top of the scoring charts in the French second tier, the latter doing so in 2009-10 with Tours when aged two years older than Mikautadze.

Giroud would immediately go on to join Montpellier, where he continued his good form to fire the club to an unlikely title success, before enjoying triumphant spells with Arsenal, Chelsea and current club Milan.

Burnley forward Nathan Tella.

It may well be that Mikautadze is on his own path to the very top, and those who have watched the Georgia international close up certainly seem to think so.

Football author Mohamed Mohamed has described Mikautadze as having a "unique skill set" and the "potential to become the next Ligue 2 starlet who performs well in a big five league."

Burnley may well prove to be a good stepping stone for the Lyon-born attacker, especially as Clarets boss Kompany has previously made his interest in the player known.

While the manager said last summer that Mikautadze was "probably out of our range", that is not likely to be the case this window following promotion to the Premier League.

With a goal return of 0.68 per 90 minutes last season, as per FBref, Mikautadze undoubtedly has the pedigree to make an impact for Burnley. To put that figure in some context, Nathan Tella – Burnley's top scorer last season – scored at a rate of 0.61 goals per 90 minutes.

Mikautadze is not letting the hype get to him, either, as he showed on Saturday when scoring a crucial goal for Georgia in their 2-1 Euro 2020 qualifying win in Cyprus.

With Tella back at parent club Southampton, and Ashley Barnes leaving to join Norwich City, Mikautadze can be an ideal upgrade on both. Indeed, Mikautadze also outperformed Tella last season in terms of assists (0.24 v 0.18) and shots on target per 90 minutes (3.06 v 2.60).

Potentially available for £8m this summer, according to Football Observatory, moving for Mikautadze seems a no-brainer for the Clarets if they are looking for a rising star ready to make his mark in a major league.

Spurs Could Sign Varane 2.0 In ‘Generational’ £30m ‘Monster’

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in raiding Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer and procuring centre-back Max Kilman, according to reports.

It's the beginning of a new chapter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with manager Ange Postecoglou departing treble-winning Celtic to take the reins and lead Spurs back to brighter days after a dismal campaign that culminated in an eighth-place finish and failure to qualify for European competition next season.

Tottenham started the campaign brightly under the stewardship of the distinguished Antonio Conte but trickled further into the murky abyss as the season went on, ending another year without silverware.

The defensive efforts were shoddy and a large part behind the woes, and that's why Kilman could prove to be a shrewd acquisition to return some stability and grit to the N17 backline.

90min certainly think it could be a possibility, stating that the 26-year-old "has long had admirers" at the club and "remains a target", with The Athletic's Tim Spiers revealing this year that his signature could cost around £20m-£30m.

Should Tottenham sign Max Kilman?

Kilman, who is eligible to play internationally for both England and Ukraine, played 37 matches this season as Wolves finished 13th in the Premier League after looking like relegation favourites before Julen Lopetegui's appointment before the mid-season pause for the 2022 World Cup.

Praised as "immense" and a "monster" by Talking Wolves presenter Tom Parker, he recorded an average match rating of 6.85 this season, according to Sofascore, and caught the eye by keeping 11 clean sheets, making 4.4 clearances per game and winning 67% of his aerial duels.

His prowess is further illustrated by metrics provided by FBref, who suggest the distinguished Manchester United titan Raphael Varane is his most similar player.

Indeed, with the £15k-per-week Wolves star ranking among the top 12% of centre-backs across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for successful take-ons, the top 28% for progressive carries and the top 5% for blocks per 90, his skill set does indeed draw similarities to Varane.

Man United's Raphael Varane

The £350k-per-week United phenom ranks himself among the top 25% of positional peers for progressive carries and the top 28% for successful take-ons per 90, having also averaged 3.7 clearances per match in the Premier League this term while winning 72% of his aerial duels.

Kilman could harness his skills to provide an iron-clad grip on the Spurs defence, potentially forging a solid partnership with the aggressive Cristian Romero and living up to the tag of "generational talent" – as he was dubbed by reporter Nathan Judah.

Varane is a player who has seen it all, the 30-year-old notably winning the 2018 World Cup with France and four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, also ending Manchester United's trophy drought this year with a triumph in the Carabao Cup.

If Kilman can indeed channel his own talents, he could match his confrere in Varane and play a central role in Spurs' desired resurgence, perhaps even providing the sweeping stability at the back to end a 15-year wait for silverware at the club.

Curran brothers help Lions hold off Afghanistan

Tom and Sam Curran teamed up to bring England Lions a 48-run win against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi

Tom Curran reflected on “the perfect end to a great trip” after teaming up with his younger brother Sam to fire England Lions to a 48-run victory over Afghanistan in a compelling match.Curran senior, who had already taken career-best List A figures in the Lions’ one-day whitewash against the UAE, claimed three wickets in a fiery new-ball spell to reduce Afghanistan to 27 for 4 as they chased a victory target of 217.Then Sam took over, adding two more wickets to the one he had taken late on Friday, meaning that when Afghanistan slipped to 54 for 6, all the wickets had gone to the Curran brothers.Lancashire’s Liam Livingstone made the next breakthrough with his leg-spin, Somerset’s Jack Leach claimed two wickets both courtesy of smart stumpings from Ben Foakes, and Tom Curran wrapped up the win with a cool catch on the fine leg boundary, fittingly off the bowling of Toby Roland-Jones, the Lions captain, whose six-wicket haul in the first innings had earned a narrow lead. But Afghanistan made the Lions sweat, with their experienced captain Asghar Stanikzai making 43 from 58 balls, and teenage leg-spin discovery Rashid Khan underlining his all-round ability with 52 from 73 balls to follow 12 wickets on a remarkable first-class debut – until he became the second victim of the Leach-Foakes combination.”Four-day wins are always the most satisfying,” said Tom Curran, still only 21 himself. “We put in a good couple of weeks training prior to this, had a whitewash in the one-day series, and now to top off the trip with a four-day win, the boys are really pleased.”This is Curran’s second consecutive Lions trip to the UAE – he also played a starring role in their T20 series victory over Pakistan A in Dubai last December – and he confirmed it had been even more special because he shared it with Sam, who does not turn 20 until next June.”It’s unbelievable,” he added. “It’s still something I treasure. The journey continues. I’m so proud of him. We’re going nicely. I definitely feel a lot more comfortable in this environment. I’m putting in the yards and working hard to do everything I can to be knocking on the doors for England. We’ll enjoy the Christmas break and try and come back and do the same in Sri Lanka, if selected.”The Lions play two four-day matches and five one-day matches against Sri Lanka A in February and March, with the squad to be named this week.”I was just pleased to get a go in my first four-day game for the Lions – that was obviously good experience,” Sam Curran said, after ending with impressive figures of 6-1-13-3. “It was also my first time playing with a Kookaburra which was a different experience: different lines, different lengths.”Swing is probably my strength, but this tour I’ve learned other ways of bowling on flat wickets, which has been very interesting. I’ve learned things with Kevin Shine that I probably wouldn’t have needed in England. It’s nice to know you can play on different wickets.”

Spurs Hold Interest In £44m-Rated Midfielder This Summer

Tottenham Hotspur do hold an interest in Conor Gallagher this summer but it is not something which is close at this stage in the window.

How old is Conor Gallagher?

Spurs look prepared to press the reset button this summer with a seriously underwhelming 2022/23 campaign now behind them which saw finish in a miserable eighth spot.

Ange Postecoglou has now come through the doors as their new manager as Daniel Levy has finally solved his managerial hunt following Antonio Conte's departure.

However, there are still some glaring areas which are in need of improvement considering the Lilywhites were unable to even secure a spot in the Europa Conference League for the upcoming campaign.

It is believed the north London outfit have identified the Leicester City star James Maddison as a potential option for the summer window with expected competition from Newcastle United.

But another name which is also seemingly on their radar is that of the Chelsea midfielder Gallagher who is also believed to be a target of the Toon.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed someone at Spurs appreciated the Chelsea midfielder but at the moment their attention is on Maddison:

"It's true that also someone at Tottenham appreciates the player. But, at the moment, it's not something concrete and Tottenham's focus is on James Madison."

How many years does Conor Gallagher have left on his contract?

The Chelsea midfielder did not have a campaign he will be wanting to remember in a hurry having only been able to provide a return of three goals and one assist in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

And this is a position where Spurs have been in dire need of some creativity and dependability in returning goals and assists.

Conor-Gallagher

Tottenham's highest scoring midfielder over the 2022/23 campaign was Rodrigo Bentancur with a total of six goals across all competitions.

But to put that figure into perspective, the Uruguayan has been out of action since February after sustaining a season-ending ACL injury which resulted in him undergoing surgery.

With his 2022/23 returns in mind, perhaps Maddison would prove a safer option for Tottenham considering he was able to provide an impressive 10 goals and nine assists for Leicester City (via Transfermarkt).

And despite having just two years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, reports from Germany (via football.london) suggest Chelsea could still be looking for around £44m for the 23-year-old.

PCB hits out at 'careless and cavalier' FICA security report

The PCB has issued a strong rebuttal of the security advice given by the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) over the planned staging of the Pakistan Super League final in Lahore. The report strongly suggested that overseas players should decline to participate due to concerns over safety.Pakistan’s board swiftly and fiercely rejected the FICA assessment via a strongly worded press release. “FICA has done great disservice to the cause of cricket in general and Pakistan cricket in particular by advising players not to play in the PSL final in Lahore next March because of ‘security reasons’,” read a statement. “FICA has cited unnamed expert security consultants for updated security advice that claims Pakistan is at an extremely elevated state of insecurity.”The FICA statement came shortly after the PCB had announced that the final would be played in Lahore on March 5, as planned, whether overseas players take part or not. If they decline to travel, they will be replaced by players from Pakistan or foreign players who are ready to make a trip. Apart from the final the entire tournament will be played in the UAE – as was the 2016 edition. The two finalists will then meet at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. In the report, FICA warned that the risk level in Pakistan remains “at an extremely elevated state” and that “an acceptable level of participant security and safety cannot be expected or guaranteed”. The report, which FICA said was based on “updated security advice” from expert security consultants, states that: “Pakistan continues to experience significant terrorist attacks across the country and westerners have in the past been directly targeted and killed in Pakistan.”Indiscriminate and targeted attacks are likely to continue, and expert advice is consistent with all Government Agencies and Diplomatic Missions, who generally advise to reconsider the need to travel. There have been attacks at sporting events, which have had significant security overlay in the past, and terrorist groups in Pakistan have demonstrated the intent and capability to launch attacks anywhere in the country. Locations including luxury hotels are also at high risk of being targeted by militant groups.”In its response, the PCB said: “This is a careless and cavalier approach to an issue of great importance. FICA sits thousands of miles away from Pakistan and cannot name even one credible security expert, yet makes a sweeping negative statement about the security situation in Lahore. FICA’s claim that ‘westerners and luxury hotels have been attacked’ is contrary to the facts on the ground that prove that not a single foreigner or hotel has been attacked in Lahore in the last five years.”Pakistan has been a no-go country for major international teams since the attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009. Zimbabwe are the only Full Member to tour Pakistan since, when they visited for a limited-overs series in 2015. There was an attempted suicide attack during that short tour, during the second ODI at Lahore, but it took place nearly 800 metres away from the stadium premises. The tour went ahead. During more than six years of isolation, the PCB has also hosted several Associate and Affiliate countries – Afghanistan, Kenya, Hong Kong and, currently, Malaysia.Recalling previous incoming tours, the PCB’s statement further read: “PCB has recently hosted Kenya, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh (Women), Afghanistan and Malaysian national cricket teams in Lahore and Karachi without any problem. In the case of PSL final in Lahore for one day, the government has guaranteed protection by over 3000 army and police personnel in Lahore. PCB will provide armoured buses for travel along with VVIP security protocols.”The statement noted the names of a number of former players, including Brian Lara, Jonty Rhodes, Damien Martyn and others, who had visited Pakistan in recent years in relation to their work as TV experts. Without expanding, the statement also added that the PSL had “already received confirmation from top international players to play in Lahore and PCB is determined to bring cricket home to Pakistan”.

Big Frenkie De Jong To Man United Transfer Update Emerges

Manchester United are keen to bolster their midfield this summer; however, Frenkie De Jong is unlikely to move to Old Trafford from Barcelona, journalist Dean Jones has suggested.

What's the latest transfer news involving Frenkie De Jong?

Earlier this year. talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook intimated in his transfer notebook that De Jong has been made one of Manchester United's 'top summer targets' and revealed that Erik Ten Hag would be keen on a reunion with the midfield playmaker he coached at Ajax.

The report states that partnering Casemiro in midfield could appeal to De Jong alongside the prospect of playing in the Champions League with Manchester United.

Of course, Manchester United heavily courted De Jong last year and they even reached an agreement on a deal worth €85 million (£73 million) for the Netherlands international with Barcelona, as per The Athletic.

Nevertheless, no transfer transpired and De Jong formed a key part of Barcelona's first La Liga title triumph since 2019, as per BBC Sport.

Capology understand that De Jong earns around €721,154 (£619,283) on a contract that runs until June 2026 at the Catalan giants.

Writing in his column for GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jones doesn't believe that De Jong will arrive at Old Trafford this summer despite the recurring rumours that he could become a Manchester United player one day.

Jones suggested: "They also need to sort the midfield, where Marcel Sabitzer was on loan last season and Fred and Scott McTominay prepare to have their partnership broken up once and for all. We have seen them make early strides for Mason Mount but look out for the likes of Romeo Lavia. Other players they admire are £230,000-a-week star Leon Goretzka – described as being an "extraordinary" player – Declan Rice and Adrien Rabiot but top target Frenkie De Jong is off limits."

Would Frenkie De Jong be a good signing for Manchester United?

De Jong is a world-class midfielder capable of functioning in a variety of different roles and would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United if any deal was to arise over the next few years.

In 2022/23, the Netherlands international made 43 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona, registering two goals and four assists, as per Transfermarkt.

frenkie-de-jong-barcelona-manchester-united

As per WhoScored, De Jong was rarely wasteful in possession during the season and maintained a pass success rate of 91.4% in La Liga.

The 26-year-old was also a key chance provider for La Blaugrana and amassed 116 shot-creating actions across the campaign, as per FBRef.

Despite this, it looks unlikely that De Jong will join Manchester United in the immediate future, putting a reunion between the former Ajax man and Red Devils boss Ten Hag on ice for now.
