Late defensive bowling from seamer K Vignesh and R Ashwin restricted Andhra to 198 for 7 in their chase of 218, after the visitors gave Tamil Nadu a scare on the final day in Chennai.Having conceded a first-innings lead of 133 and begun the final day on 112 for 2 in their second innings, Tamil Nadu scored at 4.66 an over before declaring at 350 for 6, setting Andhra 218 with just over 40 overs left in the day.The overnight pair of captain Abhinav Mukund and B Aparajith extended their partnership to 113 before Abhinav holed out for 95 off left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt. Ricky Bhui made a run-a-ball 40, and the equation was reduced to 57 off 36 balls with seven wickets in hand when he fell. The rest of the middle-order struck at over 100 to bring Andhra close, but Ashwin’s dismissal of Ashwin Hebbar was followed by a K Vignesh over that went for only two runs, besides the wicket of B Sumanth.Andhra went in to the final over needing 20, but K Vignesh removed Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari off the second ball and conceded no further runs before the game was called off.

Yusuf Pathan struck his second quickfire century of the match, and was involved in another big partnership – this time with medium-pacer Atit Sheth for the eighth wicket – but couldn’t help Baroda from slipping to an eight-wicket loss against Madhya Pradesh in Indore.Baroda started the day on 41 for 1, having been asked to follow on after conceding a first-innings lead of 249. Overnight batsman Kedar Devdhar fell off the first ball of the day to Ishwar Pandey, who took five wickets in a collapse that saw Baroda fall to 68 for 7 only 13 overs into the day.Yusuf, who had put up 188 with Irfan Pathan in the first innings to rescue Baroda from 54 for 4, performed the rescue act, again, with Sheth. He hit 16 fours and seven sixes to finish with an unbeaten 136 off 154 balls, most of which came in a partnership of 218 with Sheth who brought up his maiden first-class century before falling to legspinner Mihir Hirwani (3-77) for 109. The pair struck at more than five per over, helping Baroda erase the deficit, but the innings ended on 318, shortly after they were separated. Chasing 70, Madhya Pradesh lost both Waseem Ahmed and Naman Ojha in the first over, but Harpreet Singh and opener Rajat Patidar saw the side home.

Tripura opener Udiyan Bose scored his second first-class century and Odisha’s left-arm-spinner Dhiraj Singh finished with 5 for 55 as the two teams took a point each following a truncated game in Cuttack. The final day saw 71 overs of play, after the first three days saw only two in total. Tripura, sitting on 156 for 3 courtesy an 83-run stand between Udiyan and Yashpal Singh, collapsed before declaring on 194 for 8. Manishankar Murasingh then took the only wicket to fall in Odisha’s innings of five overs before play was called off.

Chelsea Could Sign ‘Powerful’ £28m Havertz Upgrade

Chelsea remain extremely involved in the summer transfer market despite kicking off their Premier League campaign today and now a new update has emerged on another target.

Who are Chelsea trying to sign?

According to popular French news outlet L'Equipe, Chelsea have held talks this week to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

As per the report, West Ham United are preparing an offer reported to be worth €33m (£28m) including bonuses, however, Chelsea could be set to complete a second Premier League hijack as Wahi has already held talks with the club's hierarchy.

That said, the Blues are slower in their approach compared to the Hammers.

Is Moises Caicedo going to Chelsea?

One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer has unfolded over the last 72 hours with Chelsea and Liverpool competing for the signature of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Reds submitted a £111m bid for the Ecuadorian in the early hours of Friday morning which was accepted by the Seagulls, however, it has been widely reported that Caicedo would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are set to hijack proceedings with an enormous offer of £115m – a bid that has not yet been officially submitted.

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has been sharing updates over the last few days about the potential deal, and in the latest report he has claimed:

"Understand the agreement between Moisés Caicedo and Chelsea is for a contract valid until June 2031.

caicedo-premier-league-brighton-chelsea-transfer

"…but the contract will also include an option until 2032, one more season.Caicedo agreed personal terms with Chelsea at the end of May. Clubs working to close deal now."

In the meantime, Mauricio Pochettino will be focused on not only kicking off their Premier League campaign which ironically commences today against Liverpool, but will also be looking at other areas of the pitch that need bolstering, with the attacking threat a huge focus beyond the ongoing midfield situation.

How good is Elye Wahi?

Romelu Lukaku has been given the green light to secure a permanent move away after spending last season on loan with AC Milan, whilst former forward Kai Havertz joined London rivals Arsenal this summer, a player who could be comfortably replaced by the acquirement of Wahi.

The Montpellier goal machine has become a stand-out performer not only for the French club but has been one of the highest-performing forwards in the entirety of Ligue 1 – ranking as the seventh top-scorer, fourth for non-penalty goals and first for percentage of shots on target, as per FBref.

When comparing Wahi's output with Havertz last season, the Frenchman comfortably outperformed his positional peer in a number of key attributes including goal contributions (24 v 8), shots on target rate (58.1% v 44.3%), goal-creating actions per 90 (0.43 v 0.14), successful take-ons (38.2% v 28.3%) and shots on target per 90 (1.29 v 1.09).

Despite only being 20 years old, the talented centre-forward has already earned high praise for his qualities in front of goal, with ex-Caen academy director Francis de Taddeo revealing Wahi's key strengths:

"He is a powerful, athletic and fast player with a range of dribbling skills where only he knows what he is going to do next."

If there is one area where Havertz lacks, it is his athleticism and speed. Wahi, therefore, may well represent a powerful new upgrade for Pochettino to utilise.

With that being said, there is no doubt that the attacker would be a great piece of business for Chelsea this summer, presenting their Argentine coach with a real threat and upgrade on their departing German in the final third.

Newcastle Could Sign A Monstrous Botman Partner

Newcastle United's Premier League campaign kicks off later this month as they host Aston Villa at St. James' Park and the home faithful could have a few new faces to see in action.

Who have Newcastle United signed this summer?

Eddie Howe has been able to bring in two new first-team signings so far during the summer transfer window as Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes have come in to bolster his options in midfield and out wide.

Talented youngster Yankuba Minteh has also been brought in but the 19-year-old winger was instantly sent back out on loan to Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

The Northern Echo have claimed that the head coach would like to make two further additions to the side before the deadline passes; a full-back and a central defender.

Newcastle and top-flight rivals Everton are both reportedly eyeing a swoop for Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet, although it remains to be seen how much it would take for the Austrian giants to cash in on him.

Who is Oumar Solet?

The 23-year-old colossus stands at 6 foot 4 and could form a monstrous partnership with current Magpies titan Sven Botman at the back if the club are able to snap him up before the end of the window.

Solet, who talent scout Jacek Kulig once described as "marauding", enjoyed a terrific 2022/23 campaign with Salzburg and could be a terrific signing for Howe if the French giant is able to translate his form over to English football.

He averaged a phenomenal Sofascore rating of 7.42 across 25 Bundesliga outings, which shows that the talented youngster produced consistently brilliant performances and rarely allowed his level to dip.

Solet also made a whopping 4.5 tackles and interceptions per game for Salzburg, which is more than any Toon player in any position managed last term.

To put those numbers into context, only Kieran Trippier (7.61) averaged a higher Sofascore rating for Newcastle in the Premier League and Fabian Schar, who Solet could replace on the right side of the defence, averaged a score of 7.13.

Newcastle defender Sven Botman.

The Switzerland international has entered the final year of his contract on Tyneside and turns 32 later this year, which could result in the Salzburg star and Botman, 23, being the long-term pairing for Howe at the back.

Solet and the Dutchman both stand at 6 foot 4 and have the ability to consistently dominate opposition attackers, which could make them a fearsome central defensive partnership for teams to break down this season.

The towering Frenchman won 63% of his Bundesliga duels last term and caught the eye with a stunning 83% aerial contest success rate across four Champions League outings. Meanwhile, Botman won 67% of his battles – 66% of them in the air – throughout his debut Premier League campaign for Newcastle.

This shows that they are both physically strong and imposing defenders who will not be bullied, which could give Howe's side a solid base from which to build.

Therefore, Dan Ashworth and the English tactician could unearth a terrific long-term partnership in defence for the Magpies by signing Solet to replace Botman as Schar's heir this summer.

Liverpool: Klopp Could Eyeing Lavia Alternative In £20m "Controller"

Liverpool have made contact with Fluminense regarding the possible transfer of midfielder Andre as Reds manager Jurgen Klopp continues to reassemble his squad.

What's the latest on Andre to Liverpool?

That's according to Sky Sports, who claim that Liverpool are in negotiation with the Brazilian Serie A outfit after seeing a second offer for Southampton's Romeo Lavia rejected.

Andre is valued at a ballpark £20m by his side, and whilst Fluminense are reluctant to grant a departure for one of their most coveted assets midway through the season – the Brazilian Serie A runs from April to December – the player is enticed by the prospect of moving to Anfield.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

The Reds have already bolstered the midfield with deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, but the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have left a hold needing to be filled on the defensive side of the centre.

How good is Andre?

With the aforementioned Lavia's arrival signing at Anfield very much in the balance, Liverpool appear to be making contingency plans in the event that the £50m-rated Belgian doesn't wind up on Merseyside.

There is no simple silver bullet to solve the problems that plagued Klopp's squad last season, but the transfer business conducted thus far looks promising, albeit with work still to be done, with the season-opener against Chelsea just over one week away.

And therein lies the problem; Fabinho's sale leaves little protection in the defensive midfield, and the Reds will need to act swiftly to sign a new No. 6 and integrate them ahead of the relentless pace of the campaign.

So if Liverpool fail to make progress in the Lavia deal, pouncing upon the 22-year-old "leader" – as he has been hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig – might be an auspicious move.

Fluminense's Andre

Andre is a composed and calculated head in possession and a fiery bundle of energy when looking to regain the ball, with FBref ranking him among the top 1% of midfielders across Men's Next Eight divisions and the top 6% for successful take-ons per 90.

And given his performances in his homeland this year, recording an average Sofascore rating of 7.09 across 14 matches, completing 94% of his passes, making 0.9 key passes, 2.1 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game, he looks like the missing ingredient from this Liverpool team and one who could excel in English football.

It's important to note that Andre brings a very different approach than Lavia to the table, with the Fluminense star described as a "controller" by Sky Sports' Melissa Reddy, whereas Southampton's precocious starlet is dubbed a "progressive destroyer".

What this effectively means is that Andre will bring composure in possession and astute awareness in distribution, while Lavia will recycle play and negate the opposing advances with his defensive application – the 19-year-old ranks among the top 4% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues for blocks per 90, whereas only among the top 22% for pass completion.

Liverpool must now assess their options and devise the best plan forward, and while Andre might differ from his Belgian confrere, he would undoubtedly bring his qualities to Merseyside and stamp his style on Klopp's team.

Chelsea Eye Move For £69m Ligue 1 Maestro

Chelsea will be looking for a quick solution having thus far been unable to strike a deal for Moises Caicedo, and now a new update has emerged on a potential target who could be a dream alternative.

What's the latest on Chelsea's interest in Marco Verratti?

According to French news outlet Foot Mercato, Chelsea are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

As per the report, the west London club are looking at their options after enduring a number of midfield outgoings this summer and have identified Verratti as a potential option to strengthen the presence in the centre of the pitch.

How much will Marco Verratti cost?

While there is still a chance that Mauricio Pochettino could land Caicedo, after chasing the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder for the entire transfer window, turning to an alternative option like Veratti would not be the worst idea in the world.

After losing N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Mason Mount since the turn of the year, there is a much-needed rebuild due to help develop the next generation of success in the centre of the pitch at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, the signing of Verratti would not only provide the newly-appointed Chelsea boss with an experienced and high-quality alternative to Caicedo, but a midfielder who he is extremely familiar following his stint managing the Ligue 1 champions.

Verratti – once hailed "extraordinary" by Thomas Tuchel – was a regular and trusted feature in Pochettino's PSG team, with the Argentine coach waxing lyrical about the Italian maestro's strengths during his time at the club:

"He is a player with a very good ability to read the game. He allows for us each time to have attacking possession and to bring the ball out into good situations, to better start off attacks. In attacking phases, he can double his efforts and provoke situations going forward. For me, he is a truly great player."

In terms of being the right profile of player, Caicedo has been named as one of the most comparable players to the 30-year-old star over the last 12 months, according to FBref, with the positional peers sharing many similarities in their output.

In fact, when comparing the duo, Verratti outperformed the Ecuadorian in a number of key attributes over last season including pass completion (92.6% v 88.5%), shot-creating actions per 90 (3.41 v 2.51), goal-creating actions per 90 (0.37 v 0.14) and successful take-ons (54.7% v 51.9%).

marco-verratti-psg-premier-league-chelsea-transfers

Whilst the idea of signing the Italy international seems like the perfect solution in Chelsea's precarious position, it would be by no means a cheap option for Todd Boehly, with reports claiming that PSG are expecting to receive an €80m (£69m) fee to part ways with their player.

Alongside the transfer fee, Verratti is earning a whopping £239k-per-week wage in Paris, which would present a huge financial investment for the Blues if they decide to make a concrete move, especially if the midfielder is not willing to take a pay cut.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for Chelsea to secure a deal for Verratti if they could meet the valuation of PSG and salary expectations of the player, as he would be a highly valuable asset to the Blues in midfield next season.

Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain will travel to South Africa on Thursday night, after receiving security clearance from the South African authorities. Rubel had been barred from travelling with the Bangladesh team on Saturday, as the airlines refused to issue his boarding pass.”The security clearance of Rubel has arrived and he will be taking the evening flight,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s media committee chairman, said.In a press briefing earlier in the afternoon, BCB president Nazmul Hassan said that Rubel was a victim of mistaken identity; another person of the same name and date of birth is barred from entering South Africa. The resultant confusion stopped Rubel from boarding the flight for Johannesburg. The incident prompted an emergency meeting at the board headquarters on Thursday, headed by the BCB chief Hassan.”We have continuously been in contact with Cricket South Africa, who are also in touch with their home ministry,” Hassan said. “We have received the photo and name of another “Rubel Hossain”, whose date of birth also matches with the player. But this person is barred from entering South Africa, so we have confirmed to them that it is not the cricketer Rubel Hossain. I think they got confused, but the photos don’t match.”

Queensland then hit back to reduce Victoria to 43 for 3 at stumps. After choosing to bat, Queensland had lost both openers – Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns – quickly and the slide seeped into the middle order too. Uncertainty over Hathurusingha's future as Bangladesh coach

The Bangladesh coach has tendered his resignation, which has not yet been accepted by the board, with strong signals that SLC is pursuing him for the head coach role

Mohammad Isam and Andrew Fidel Fernando09-Nov-2017Chandika Hathurusingha’s future with Bangladesh hangs in the balance after the coach tendered his resignation to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).Whether that resignation will be accepted by the BCB, and if it will actually result in Hathurusingha’s exit remains to be seen. Hathurusingha and top officials at the BCB have not officially confirmed these developments, but are not denying them. Meanwhile, there are strong signals from Sri Lanka Cricket that they are pursuing Hathurusingha, and are in fact presently in negotiations with him. There have been increasing recent signs that despite Bangladesh’s many improvements during his tenure, Hathurusingha is unsatisfied with the state of his present role. He had once already moved to resign in October last year, but the BCB had not accepted his resignation and Hathurusingha was convinced to continue. Now, however there is the additional lure of a job in his home country. SLC has been on the hunt for a new head coach since Graham Ford resigned in June, and had, in fact, already approached Hathurusingha over the past three months. Though Hathurusingha had eventually rebuffed SLC on that first occasion, recent developments may have made the Sri Lanka role more attractive to Hathurusingha. SLC has just hired Hathurusingha’s longtime friend and associate Thilan Samaraweera as batting coach, for one. Then there has also been a change in selection committee. ESPNcricinfo also understands that SLC is prepared to pay Hathurusingha what he presently earns with the BCB – a substantial commitment for the Sri Lankan board. There are, of course, contractual obligations to consider here. Having been given an extension in the middle of last year, Hathurusingha has signed with the BCB until the end of the 2019 World Cup. Leaving this contract is likely to be a complicated proposition, possibly involving a months-long notice period. If Hathurusingha does end up leaving his position, however, it will bring to an end a tenure that lasted over three years and oversaw substantial gains by the Bangladesh side, particularly in ODI cricket. In major tournaments, Bangladesh made the quarter-final of the 2015 World Cup and the semi-final of the 2017 Champions Trophy. They had also defeated India, Pakistan and South Africa in home bilateral series, and have climbed up the ODI rankings as a result. In Tests, Bangladesh registered their first-ever wins against England and Australia at home, and against Sri Lanka away. The team has, however, recently returned from a dispiriting tour to South Africa.
