Amorim adopted a defensive approach as United hosted Arsenal in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday. The hosts sat back and defended in the first half as they had just one shot on target from which Bruno Fernandes scored the opener. The Red Devils improved after the break, though, as they threatened the Gunners backline on multiple occasions and could have even won the match, if not for David Raya's heroics in goal.

Speaking to after the match, the Portuguese coach admitted that Man Utd's approach had not been ideal, saying: "When you coach Manchester United, you cannot play too much like that but the idea is to win the game and not to show something just to the fans. I know that it's frustrating for the fans sometimes but then when you score and you feel comfortable and then you have a lot of opportunities, the game changes, the momentum changes and they are happy. So we have to deal with that.
"Sometimes we have to do things that are not popular but if you want to win and imagine one way to win, we have to do it because in the end, we need the points."

With a new manager appointed and one they’ll be hoping finally solves their problems for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United look set to get ruthless, showing the door to a number of players. Among those looks likely to be Victor Lindelof, who is on course to leave as a free agent upon the expiry of his current contract at the end of the campaign.
Given recent reports linking Lindelof to AC Milan, the Swede seems almost certain to be among the departures. As he and others potentially leave, however, the Red Devils could welcome a Champions League forward.
According to reports in Spain, INEOS have made contact to sign Randal Kolo Muani for Manchester United and Amorim. The Frenchman has struggled at Paris Saint-Germain and now looks destined to leave the Ligue 1 champions just two years after arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt. In need of a revival, Manchester United could step in, with Amorim seeing the player as an interesting option.
It must be said though, that the 25-year-old could cost a hefty fee if PSG are looking to regain as much of the initial £64m that they splashed out in 2023, which would give United plenty to think about. The Red Devils have made several transfer mistakes in the past and do not need to add the £203,000-a-week forward to that list.
"Superb" Kolo Muani would be a risk
Whilst he showed potential at Nantes before truly bursting into life at Frankfurt – scoring 23 goals and assisting a further 17 in the 2022/23 campaign – Kolo Muani has simply struggled on the big stage. Even in the absence of Kylian Mbappe, he has failed to establish himself as the main man at PSG, culminating in just two Ligue 1 starts so far this season.
The 25-year-old was once described as a “superb player” by Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig, but is not currently operating at that level. There is, of course, plenty of time to turn things around but Old Trafford is not the place to do that. In a transitional period of struggle themselves, Manchester United are in no position to help players back to their best form.
As Manchester United and Kolo Muani look to rebuild, it’d arguably be best to take a separate path.

New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first game this weekend, looking to make the perfect start to his tenure at the club.
The Red Devils travel to Portman Road to face an Ipswich Town side who are yet to win a home Premier League outing after their promotion last season, with the meeting producing an opportunity for the 39-year-old to claim all three points.
Before the international break, United claimed a 3-0 win over Steve Cooper’s Leicester City at Old Trafford, in what was Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final game in temporary charge before the arrival of Amorim.
As for the hosts, they claimed their first league win last time out, causing an upset in the process, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in North London – moving the Tractor Boys out of the drop zone.
Super Sunday never fails to deliver, but the big question is who the new United boss will opt to start with in his first game at the helm.
United’s injury news ahead of Ipswich clash
Over the last couple of weeks, United have been plagued with various injuries that have seen the side look depleted in numerous key areas.
The defensive unit has taken the biggest battering, with Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof all looking set to miss the trip to East Anglia on Sunday evening.

Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t featured since the 0-0 draw away at Aston Villa back at the start of October but has been pictured training during the recent break under Amorim.
Along with the injuries, many positional questions will be answered by Sunday afternoon, with many wondering whether the new boss will utilise his 3-4-3 system or the 4-2-3-1 that has been tried and tested at Old Trafford over the last couple of years.
It could allow for numerous players to stake their claim for a regular starting role under Amorim, having endured an unsuccessful stint under former manager Erik ten Hag.
One player in particular may fit perfectly into the 3-4-3 system, deserving of a rare start in the meeting tomorrow evening.

Midfielder Mason Mount arrived in a £60m deal from fellow Premier League side Chelsea last summer, but has endured a torrid spell with injuries over the last 12 months.
The 25-year-old made just 20 appearances in all competitions during his debut year in Manchester, registering just two combined goals and assists.
However, the arrival of the 39-year-old could allow him to have a bigger role in the first team, featuring in one of the two attacking midfielder roles behind the striker of Amorim’s three-back system.

The “outstanding” Mount, as dubbed by former coach Jody Morris, has previously featured in such a role during his time at Stamford Bridge, registering 13 goals and 16 assists during the 2021/22 campaign with his boyhood outfit.
He’s yet to demonstrate anywhere the level required of a player who costs £60m but, should he play in one of those aforementioned roles, he could well produce some performances to showcase why he cost such a hefty fee.

Farke swooped to sign the Israel international on a season-long loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, and the attacker has had a mixed start to life in West Yorkshire.

According to the Mirror’s Ryan Taylor, Real Salt Lake forward Diego Luna has emerged as a target for Leeds United ahead of the upcoming transfer window, which officially opens for business next month.
The reporter claims that Farke and his recruitment team are exploring a potential swoop for the American youngster, although he adds that there is ‘nothing to suggest’ that a deal is imminent for the Championship side.
Taylor also reveals that there is competition from other clubs across Europe and this means that the Whites could have to move quickly to secure his services, to avoid another team coming in to beat them to the left winger’s signature.
